Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra

I am delighted to write about my Guru and mother in law Dr Tulasi Ramachandra .

Dr Tulasi Ramachandra is our source of inspiration and a mentor for Nrityalaya school of dance and Mridangam. She is the Founder-Director of Nrityalaya Trust, an Academy of Performing Arts established in 1979 in Mysore of which we are a branch. She is an exceptional artiste with mastery over dance, music and literature. Nrityalaya has grown as an elite organization over the years and has carved a niche of its own in presenting unique dance presentations based on mythological, historical, social and contemporary themes in India and abroad. The unique dance style brought out by Nrityalaya in all its productions by Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra has won her laurels around the world . This elegant dance style, 'Maadhurya Maarga' lays emphasis on bringing out the natural beauty and grace of Bharathanatyam through supple movements, nimble footwork and graceful gestures. Dr Tulasi Ramchandra also has to her credit the revival and popularizing of the ancient dance forms of Karnataka - “Goundali” and “Perani”. She is the recipient of many awards and honors including the 'Rajyostava award' and 'Karnataka Kalashri' award. She is also the author of many books on dance .’Pada Gati-Paada Gati’ book written by her is based on her doctoral thesis.
She has trained many students over 35 years who are spreading this art all over the world and have blossomed into accomplished dancers and teachers.
Laya Nritya would not be possible without her encouragement and mentorship. The entire team of Laya Nritya is fortunate to get her support and guidance and we extend her heartfelt gratitude for this.
